Southern California Style Refried Beans

This recipe I don’t have exact measurements or recipe and I probably make it a little different every time so bear with me…this is why I love this recipe you can’t screw it up and they are sooo yummy and easy to make! Much better than can refried beans!
6 cans mixed Pinto and Great Northern Beans
Or 3 cans each of Pinto and Great Northern Beans
1/2-1 cup shredded cheese
1/2 stick of butter
Pour beans with juice in saucepan on the stove and heat until boiling. Let them cook until they are tender and soft. Shouldn’t take long. Drain beans saving the bean juice like mashed potato’s. Pour beans back in pan and mix bean juice in beans while stirring and mashing beans. Then add butter and cheese to melt. The beans will thicken so I add a little more bean juice to make them not as thick when they cool. If you like smooth creamy beans you can run them through the mixer.
Serves about 6 people. Everyone loves these beans and I like to make a little extra to have left over.
*Note I make a can of beans per person I’m serving. So just add to the recipe accordingly using equal parts pinto and northern beans. You can plus and minus the cheese and butter to your liking.
